AlphaMax M+ contains maca root extract and ginseng alongside other botanicals and vitamins. Both plants are often associated with men’s energy, but “energy” can mean different things in research: fatigue, mood, sexual function, athletic endurance or laboratory measurements.
Maca and Ginseng Are Not Interchangeable
Maca, or Lepidium meyenii, is a plant in the cabbage family traditionally grown in the Andes. Supplements may use the root as a powder, gelatinised material or extract. Processing affects the final ingredient.
Panax ginseng comes from East Asia. Red and white ginseng are made from the same plant but processed differently. Its characteristic compounds include ginsenosides, and their profile depends on the raw material and processing method.
These plants are grouped together because researchers are interested in their possible effects on well-being, not because they have the same chemistry. A result for one form of maca does not describe ginseng, or vice versa.
What a Maca Study Examined
In a 2023 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 80 men with symptoms resembling late-onset hypogonadism but normal testosterone levels received gelatinised maca or placebo for 12 weeks.
The researchers assessed several questionnaires: ageing male symptoms, sexual function, lower urinary tract symptoms and androgen deficiency. They also measured total and free testosterone, lipids, body weight and waist circumference.
Compared with placebo, scores on several questionnaires improved in the maca group. However, the groups did not differ significantly in the change in total or free testosterone. This is an important example of subjective well-being and a hormone measurement changing independently.
What Is Known About Ginseng
Ginseng has been studied more widely, but trials use different preparations and address different questions. An updated NCCIH review notes a possible small effect of Asian ginseng on general fatigue not linked to a specific disease, although findings vary.
Some studies found changes in certain aspects of sexual function among people with erectile dysfunction. That is not the same as increased libido in a healthy man, and it does not prove that ginseng treats the cause of erectile problems. Most studies also do not confirm improved athletic performance.
Clinical trials of ginseng are usually small—fewer than 200 participants—and often last less than three months. Differences between extracts and doses make results harder to combine.
Outcomes That Should Not Be Confused
| Measure | What it describes | How it is assessed |
|---|---|---|
| General fatigue | Feeling depleted and its effect on the day | Questionnaire or scale |
| Mood | Anxiety, low mood or tension | Specific psychological questionnaires |
| Libido | Sexual desire | Self-report and clinical discussion |
| Erectile function | Ability to achieve and maintain an erection | Specialised questionnaire and assessment |
| Physical endurance | Performance during a standardised activity | Performance test |
| Testosterone | Hormone concentration | Morning laboratory test |
If a fatigue questionnaire improves, that does not prove testosterone rose or athletic endurance increased. A normal test result also does not invalidate symptoms, which may be related to sleep, stress, medicines, relationships or illness.
How to Compare Botanical Studies
Before applying a result, ask five questions:
- Which plant species and part were used?
- Was it a powder or a standardised extract?
- Who participated—healthy people or patients with a specific concern?
- What was the comparator and how long did the study last?
- What changed—a questionnaire, a function test or a laboratory measure?
The phrase “scientists proved benefits for men” answers none of these. A sound conclusion is narrower: a specific preparation produced a specific result in a particular group, and that result needs confirmation in other studies.
What AlphaMax M+ Contains
AlphaMax M+ combines 13 ingredients. Alongside maca and ginseng, the botanical blend contains fenugreek, tribulus, Epimedium, pomegranate, pine bark, rhodiola and tongkat ali. The formula also includes Graminex® G63® from flower pollen, LiBoost™ from damiana, B vitamins and vitamin C.
One serving contains 1,000 mg of the entire blend. This is not the amount of maca or ginseng separately. A study of gelatinised maca or a particular ginseng extract is not a trial of AlphaMax M+, and combining several plants does not guarantee the sum of their proposed effects.
How to Take AlphaMax M+
Use one serving of AlphaMax M+ as needed. The pack contains seven individual sachets. Follow the directions and do not exceed the amount shown on the pack.
Ginseng may cause insomnia and interact with medicines, including those that affect blood clotting or blood glucose. Consult a healthcare professional before combining AlphaMax M+ with medicines. The formula is not a medicine.
If fatigue, reduced libido or erectile problems persist, it is important to look for the cause. Maca and ginseng are of scientific interest, but their studies do not turn a botanical blend into a substitute for assessment, sleep, movement or prescribed treatment.
